Outlook Express is in French. How do you change it?

If you have Office 2007 on your system, 3 of your dictionaries (including english) are deleted and replaced. Unfortunately - these new dictionaries are not compatible with Outlook Express.
Tim October 12 2007

Scenario: Purchased a brand new computer with XP and activated Office 2007 60-Day trial license (although a full version should still run into the same problem). English dictionary no longer appeared in OE. Downloaded OE English 2.1 dictionary from Softpedia and installed it. From OE, go to Tools -> Spelling -> Select English Dictionary. Now every time you spell check, Outlook Express crashes. Since a copy of Office 2003 is not available, cannot use the proofing tools from that version.

Solution: If 2007 shared proofing tools are installed, installing a third party spelling dictionary might cause this scenario. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Offce 2007 -> Remove. This will give you the option to change your installed settings. Follow the prompts until you get to the part where you select which parts of office you want to install. Locate Sharing -> Proofing and set entire category to not installed. Let the installation update itself. Now reinstall the English Dictionary from Softpedia.com. When running the spell checker, Outlook Express should no longer crash. Spell check features still work in Office 2007 as well.

Why French is the only language for Outlook Express is a mystery but one which is not important enough for Microsoft to spend any time rectifying. Money,Money,Money,Money,Money,Money,

Same thing as everyone else and the dealer says well that\'s waht you\'ve got now so basically it\'s our fault for buying Micro soft, what a way to run a company. Is there any way of installing another spell check?

My Outlook Express is in French. I can\'t believe English is not listed on the drop down menu. I have downloaded the OE 2.1 spell checker to correct this and when I try to spell check my computer hangs up. How can I stop that from happening?

How to convert my office 2007 outlook Express french Dictionary to English
Suranga May 08 2008

French is default because unit assembled in Germany. OE2.1 from Majorgeeks website (free) will download but meshing with Outlook Express remains a problem. There should be simple answer like Mozilla\'s Thunderbird but MS (Multiple Sclerosis?)just doesn\'t care after licensee has downloaded an XP copy onto its sales vehicle.
Perhaps St. Andrew\'s University might take an interest; usually very helpful.

Is there a way to change dictionary from french to english in outlook express yet?
Jeanne May 29 2008

I, too, cannot change the spellcheck dictionary from French to English. Apparently my computer was manufactured in Canada and French installed there. I am appalled that Microsoft, while able to develop new technology, is unable to create something to change the spellcheck language to English for its United States\' users. Before purchasing this Dell computer, I had a Compaq computer that gave me many choices of spellcheck languages. This Dell computer doesn\'t even provide the language of this country! I am ready to send the computer back because it is flawed and useless as is! Microsoft -- are you listening? Ignoring purchasers\' complaints will soon diminish chances of future purchases by all who have encountered or are informed about manufacturing problems that are ignored.

I too have the problem w/ Office 2007 but I may have a fix. I did not uninstall my 2002 Office for Students etc and installed Office 2007 over it. Outlook Express worked perfectly with English dictionary. Recently because of a corrup OS file I had to reinstall Office 2007. I did not install Office 2002 first. French appeared.
I\'m going back and uninstall 2007, reinstall 2002 then install 2007 hoping this will do the trick.

I will announce if successful.

i have french spelling checker which is useless for me.
i really need to change to English.
please advise what to do??

ania@e-access.com.au June 08 2008

The fix for me was to uninstall Office 2007 and reinstall MS Office 2002 for Students... and reinstll Office 2007 over it. See my previous post. The second installation actually did not overwrite 2002 but no matter. I can use either version with no problem. French turned back into English in OE. OE uses Word for its dictionary. The reinstall will try to make Outlook your default email. Jsut click no which it ask to import. I hope this helps. I do not know anything about this site\'s spell check program.

I inadvertently clicked on \"add\" when I wanted to click on \"change\" in Outlook Express Spell Check. Now this error has been entered into my Spell Check dictionary and Spell Check will no longer correct for this error. How can I get that error deleted from Spell Check?

Reading this page has saved me a lot of time trying to solve my problem. But I still have my spellcheck in Frence. What kind of customer care is it when there is no solution to a problem affecting so many people.
Tony N June 21 2008

I have written to Microsoft, but they do not even bother to reply. Even Bill has given up and left the Company!!!
Mike June 28 2008

I have exhausted evey effort to get the Spellcheck to work using the English language.
George June 30 2008

I have read all these letters trying to find out how to obtain English in the spell-check instead of French and ask myself - Why has\'nt Microsoft made any comment or explanation in rectifying this problem.
Rita July 02 2008

Found a way out of this delema. Purchased a writing program which corrects all spelling mistakes and grammer. In any language and in any format or program you use. Try it. It\'s way better than any Spell Checker you purchase at the same price....whitesmoke.com

MS Office 2007? Just, DELETE IT! Re-install a hacked copy of MS Office 2003 into the PC and all should be fine. Typical crap from MS.
Just Me August 15 2008

I\'m glad I\'m not the only one annoyed at the spell check only being in French. My spelling is terrible and i always use spell check!

I can\'t believe there isn\'t a solution to this problem. Oh well all my customers will get mis-spelled emails hehe
